Mr. Swilley

Welcome to Sallas Mahone Elementary School! I am the assistant principal for grades 3-5. The administrators, teachers, and staff are excited to welcome you and your children to another great year at SME. Our primary goal at SME is to provide a challenging and safe learning environment for all of our students. The teachers at SME are dedicated professionals who want their students to achieve to the highest levels. It takes a team effort for this to happen. Our teachers regularly meet to examine student data to help guide instruction. Our teachers also attend professional learning with our academic coaches regularly and communicate with parents through various methods (communication book, phone, email, text, etc…). If you ever have concerns regarding your child, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. Additionally, feel free to contact me if you need additional assistance beyond that of your child’s teacher.

As I mentioned previously, I am the assistant principal for grades 3-5; however, I assist Mr. Glover and Dr. Haugabrook with all students at SME. I would like to personally thank Mr. Glover for bringing me on as assistant principal in 2014. This is my second year at SME and I can honestly say that I am impressed daily with the hard work, dedication, and caring spirit of our teachers and staff. For this reason, I am excited that my two wonderful daughters are able to attend SME; we get to carpool every morning! I have spent my entire career in the Valdosta City School system beginning as a student teacher at Valdosta Middle School in 2000. Later that same year, I started teaching in the fall and taught and/or served as academic coach at VMS until 2014. I always enjoy seeing my former students around town or even now as parents at SME.
Thank you for entrusting SME with your most prized possessions, your children. I can honestly say, we at SME do not take the task of educating your children lightly. We strive every day to provide a challenging and safe environment for your children.

Sincerely,
Mr. Swilley
