Gifted services are provided to eligible students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 at Sallas Mahone. Students may be referred by teachers, parents, and others. Students are tested in four areas to determine eligibility: intelligence, achievement, creativity, and motivation. Test scores are valid for two years. Students who meet the state criteria in 3 of the 4 areas are served on a daily basis as they work independently and cooperatively on numerous projects to extend learning beyond the classroom. Please contact the classroom teacher or the teacher of the gifted at 333-8530 if you have questions or concerns regarding the enrichment program.
Mrs. Campa and Mrs. Carlson's students attend class daily as they work on multiple projects in a non-graded, exploratory environment. With a focus on research and reference skills along with communication and creativity, classroom topics encompass both the gifted benchmarks and the Georgia Department of Education standards. With this in mind, students are responsible for work missed in the regular classroom in addition to satisfactory performance in the program for the gifted. Participation in meaningful projects and collaborative tasks within the context of the gifted program provides a foundation for continued growth and development.
